LG autonomy: ALGON lauds stakeholders

The Association of Local Governments of Nigeria, ALGON, has commended President Goodluck Jonathan and the seventh National Assembly for their concerted efforts towards the enthronement of a virile and functional local government system in Nigeria, which climaxed in the historic joint constitution amendment committee vote to grant autonomy to local governments in the country. ALGON said in a statement by its national president, Ozo Okafor, that the “feat marks a new beginning in the history of local government administration in Nigeria.”

The statement said the 7th  National Assembly, under the leadership of David Mark, Senator Ike Ekweremmadu, Hon. Aminu waziri Tambuwal and Ihedioha respectively, truly represented the wishes of the masses of Nigeria by finally assenting to the proposal of granting full financial and administrative autonomy to the 774 local government councils across Nigeria.
