Ijaw leader faults Uduaghan on handling of EPZ affair

AN Ijaw leader, Chief Bare Etolor, has accused the Delta State Government of not handling the Export Processing Zone, EPZ, project agitations well, noting that same could ignite another bloody crisis in the Niger Delta.

Etolor, who was the first Vice Chairman of the Ijaw, Isoko and Itsekiri Leadership Forum, (3I’s) in Delta State, said though Governor Emmanuel Uduaghan adopted an effective method of handling genuine agitations and conflicts in the state in the last seven years, the handling of the EPZ affair was faulty.

Speaking in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State, he urged President Goodluck Jonathan to be wary of the handling of the EPZ affair and set up an independent committee on the issue.

“While Itsekiri killed themselves, Ijaw’s clamour for recognition/participation in the ongoing contracts as stakeholders was ignored.

“In the face of the unfinished business by the panel which he set up, it was disdain for Ijaw that could have made the state governor push for the ground-breaking ceremony without resolution of issues.”
