ABUJA—Justice and Equity Mandate, JEM, has called on the new Minister of Health, Dr. Khaliru Alhassan, to intervene in the leadership crisis rocking Nnamdi Azikiwe Teaching Hospital, NAUTH, Nnewi, Anambra State.

While congratulating the new minister on his appointment, the group pleaded with Ahassan to settle the protracted crisis over who was the substantive Chief Medical Director, CMD, of NAUTH, Nnewi.

In a statement signed by the Chairman, Professor Yakubu Mohammed, and Secretary, Dr. Frank Ihonvbere, respectively, JEM noted that there was no substantive CMD at the NAUTH since April 2013.

According to the group, Dr. Anthony Igwegbe resumed as acting CMD of NAUTH in January 2013 and was expected to vacate office in April 2013, after three months acting capacity as stipulated in the 1999 Constitution and as amended unless he was confirmed the substantive CMD.

The group disclosed that the uncertainty over a substantive CMD had brought the activities at the health facility to its lowest ebb, saying “doctors and other health officials in the hospital are disillusionedand frustrated by the status quo.”
