NLC congratulates Fayose, INEC on Ekiti election

Abuja – The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) on Tuesday congratulated the Governor-elect of Ekiti State, Mr Ayo Fayose, on his victory at the just concluded gubernatorial election.

This is contained in a statement issued in Abuja by the National President of the congress, Malam Abdulwahed Omar.

“We at the Nigeria Labour Congress would like to congratulate the Governor-elect of Ekiti State, Mr Ayo Fayose, on his victory at the polls.

“He owes the Ekiti people the duty of keeping his campaign promises to them and of building on what his predecessor has done.

“It is heart-warming to hear him say he would work with Dr Fayemi to move the state forward.

“We also wish to congratulate the outgoing Governor, Dr Kayode Fayemi, for accepting the verdict of the people without contesting it.

“He displayed uncommon courage and statesmanship by not only accepting defeat, but by promptly congratulating his opponent without fuss, ’’the statement said.

The NLC believed that the conduct was inspiring and marks the beginning of a new era in our polity, the statement said.

It urged politicians to emulate Fayemi, as people could not be winners all the time, and congratulated the Independent Electoral Commission (INEC) for the peaceful conduct of the poll.

“Against all expectations, it has conducted an election adjudged by all parties to be free, fair and credible, which is a demonstration of its commitment to patriotism.

“We urge INEC to build on this as credible elections are at the root of viable democracies.

“In furtherance of this, all necessary efforts should be made to enable INEC deliver on its mandate to the people.

“Finally, we applaud the entire people of Ekiti State for their patience, perseverance and peaceful conduct, which contributed largely to the success of the election.

“We do hope this will encourage all Nigerians as we prepare for other elections at all levels, ’’the statement said. (NAN)
