IYC lauds MEND over ceasefire in N-Delta

BY Emma Amazie & Samuel Oyadongha

Yenagoa—The Ijaw Youth Council, IYC, has commended the decision of the Movement for the Emancipation of the Niger Delta, MEND, to declare ceasefire in the region.

The IYC said though the Ijaw youths were aware of the existence of unresolved and contentious issues in the region, MEND’s decision will set an example for other militia groups, including the Boko Haram Islamic sect, to allow the Federal Government through the Special Adviser to the President on Niger-Delta Affairs, Mr. Kingsley Kuku, to resolve all contentious issues in the country.

IYC, in a statement, yesterday, by its spokesman, Mr. Eric Omare, urged other insurgent groups in the country, including the Boko Haram sect to borrow a leaf from MEND.
