Lagos – A renowned boxing analyst, Trigo Egbegi, on Tuesday appealed to Nigerian sports authorities to reform boxing in the country.
Egbegi in Lagos said that stakeholders must start to address the challenges facing boxing by identifying the problems from the root.
He said that if this was done, it would lead to solving the problems and bringing back the lost glory of boxing in Nigeria.
“The basic reason why boxing, especially professional boxing in Nigeria is lagging behind is that even those at the helm of affairs have not sat down to identify the challenges.
“And if that is not addressed now it is unfortunate and boxing will forever be in the dark,” Egbegi said.
On the coming Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, Scotland, he said that proper preparation and not luck would yield medals for Nigeria.
“I have been hearing and reading all about the boxers being camped here and there, it is in the media but I really hope it is actually happening.
“And if I may add, it is not all about camping them that matters, you camp them and push them out for competitions to get better results,” Egbegi said. (NAN)
