BERLIN, June 24, 2014 (AFP) – Champions Bayern Munich will kick off the defence of their Bundesliga title at home against Wolfsburg on August 22, the German Football League announced Tuesday.
“I’m very happy to come up against a solid and attractive rival to get the Bundesliga under way,” said Bayern’s sporting director Matthias Sammer.
Wolfsburg finished fifth in the league last season, 30 points adrift of the Bavarian giants.
Bayern, with 14 players away on World Cup duty, resume training on July 9.
Borussia Dortmund, Bundesliga runners-up and losing German Cup finalists to Bayern, start their campaign at home to Bayer Leverkusen, who finished fourth last term.
