Shangai Diamond League: Okagbare eyes better result

Nigeria reigning athletics champion, Blessing Okagbare has expressed determi-nation for a better outing at the Shanghai Diamond League billed from this weekend in China.

Okagbare returned a personal best of 11.18 seconds to finish second behind Fraser Pryce at the 2014 Diamond League opener in Doha at the weekend.


The African champion a fortnight ago, who won the 100m race at the2014 Jamaica International Invitational said, “I’m very happy to make my season best in Doha but I’m not satisfied because I want more and I know I can achieve it.”

“Though it is not what I wanted but I’m glad I came out of the competition without an injury.”

The African Long Jump champion however revealed that she is still considering participating in two events at the Shanghai Diamond League with her focused being the 200m race.

“I’m set for the 200m race but will check the schedules at Shanghai to see if I will be doing the Long Jump,” she added.

On the rivalry between her and Fraser Pryce, Okagbare said, “I don’t go into competition thinking about someone else but I focus on myself and what I can do and what I will do.
