Ogun Police arrest 45 suspects over ‘jungle justice’

ABEOKUTA— The Ogun State Police Command, yesterday, read the riot act over the incessant killings of suspected kidnappers and ritualists by mobs in the state.

It, however, said no fewer than 45 suspects had been arrested in connection with the alleged killing of people suspected to be kidnappers and ritualists in the state since April.

The state Commissioner of Police, Mr Ikemefuna Okoye, stated these during a press briefing at the state Police Command Headquarters, Eleweran, Abeokuta.

Okoye, who condemned the act which he described as jungle justice, vowed that “anyone caught will not be spared and will be made to face the full wrath of the law.”

The CP also lamented that the command had recorded seven incidents in various places in the state including Adigbe in Obafemi‑Owode Local Government Area, Ijaye, Lafenwa and Kugba in Abeokuta North Local Government Area.

Other places where such incidents occurred, according to the Commissioner were Igbeba in Ijebu‑Ode, Ota in Ado‑Odo/Ota Local Government Area, Ilese‑Ijebu in Ijebu North‑East Local Government Area and Ilaro, Yewa South Local Government Area.
