Edo royal fathers blast Orbih over comments on Enigie’s visit to Oshiomhole

BENIN—ROYAL fathers from Edo South senatorial district of Edo State have faulted comments by the People’s Democratic Party, PDP, in the state, accusing Governor Adams Oshiomhole of dragging the traditional rulers into politics.

It will be recalled that royal fathers from Edo South senatorial district had visited the governor shortly after some All Progressives Congress, APC, members defected to the PDP, where they described the action of the defectors as selfish. But the chairman of PDP in the state, Chief Dan Orbih, described their visit as an attempt by the governor to drag the royal fathers into politics.

Reacting, yesterday, younger brother of the Oba of Benin and the Enogie of Obazuwa, Prince Edun Akenzua, said Orbih’s comment was an insult to the Enigies and advised him to tender an apology to them immediately.

Prince Akenzua, a former chairman of the Council of Enigies, said: “When we read the remark that we are being dragged into politics, I was shocked. That was an insult. As traditional rulers, we know we are not politicians, we don’t need any body to advise us on that. We are not partisan.”
