Edo LG boss, councillors deny plans to dump APC

BENIN—THE Chairman of Esan South-East Local Government Area of Edo State, Mr. Joseph Ikpea and councillors of the council, yesterday, denied insinuations that they had perfected plans to defect to the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.

Addressing newsmen in Benin City, Ikpea, who said that he believed in the leadership qualities of Governor Adams Oshiomhole, the leader of All Progressives Congress, APC, in the state, described as misleading, reports that he held a meeting with his councillors, where they concluded plans to dump APC for the PDP.

He said: “There was no such meeting in my council. I believe in the ideologies of our governor and it is because of his leadership qualities that we have achieved all we achieved today in Edo State. So, I don’t know the basis of insinuations that we want to join the PDP, a party that brought hardship to the people of Edo State.

“Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu is a family friend, but I do not intend to follow him to the PDP. We are lucky as a state to have a person like Oshiomhole and I prefer to be a student of the governor’s political college  than joining the PDP. So, the report is untrue. My councillors and I are committed to bringing development to our council which is the gospel of Oshiomhole and we cannot sacrifice that responsibility for politics.”
