A GOVERNORSHIP aspirant in Delta State, Mr. Tony Prest has said that he would ensure that the tourism potentials in the state are harnessed if elected governor, noting that the state could survive on the economic benefits of tourism.
Briefing newsmen in Lagos, Prest stated that beyond oil, tourism would make Delta the number one destination in Nigeria, adding that the state is blessed with tourist and research centres that can attract scholars and visitors from different parts of the world.
He further said that tourism would ensure the movement of money into local economies from other parts of the country.
His words: ‘’Proper investment in tourism will bring income into many communities. Economic benefits resulting from tourism can take a number of forms including job creation. Employment may be associated directly, with tourism, such as tour guides, managerial positions, support industries like food production or retail suppliers.
“It can also bring about the diversification of the states economy. Tourism operators can play a role in highlighting the broad prosperity that it can bring to a community and will contribute to a greater understanding and respect for the value of tourism.”
