APC wants Obiano to clarify N74bn Obi ‘left’ in Anambra’s coffers

ONITSHA — Driven by the need to clarify the current financial status of Anambra State, the state chapter of All Progressives Congress, APC, yesterday called on Governor Willie Obiano to publicly confirm or debunk the state of finances in the government’s coffers pronounced by the immediate past governor, Peter Obi.

Obi had within a few days to his exit, told Ndi-Anambra at a town hall meeting in Awka that his administration was leaving about N74 billion in the state coffers, including cash, investments and materials.

But in a press statement issued, yesterday, by state Publicity Secretary, Okelo Madukaife, APC explained that the clarification became imperative, in view of the fact that speculations were rife all over the state that between the past Obi’s and present Obiano’s administrations, there had been something deep to hide about the state of the finance.

APC also challenged the state government to clarify the investment status of the state as corporate entity in some of the major existing investment companies in the state, including the SABmiller Breweries, Onitsha; a shopping mall on old Ikenga Hotel site, Onitsha; another shopping mall at GRA, Onitsha; the Agulu Lake Resort Centre, Agulu and the Orient Petroleum Company at Aguleri

”It is our firm view that seven days are substantial enough for a sincere government to avail the public of these facts, particularly where the information sought to be clarified is within the public domain, insisting that nothing less than a prompt response within this time frame would be acceptable to Ndi Anambra, in the best interest of both the leaders and the led,” the party stated.
