Attitude paramount in achieving personal fulfillment — Administrator

By DAYO ADESULU

THE administrator, Our Lady of Apostles Secondary School, Yaba, Lagos, Sister Patricia Oguejiofor, has stated that for anyone to achieve personal fulfillment in his aspirations, attitude must be brought to the fore. Speaking at the 46th prize-giving day, Oguejiofor said the theme of this year’s speech and prize-giving day titled: Attitude: Paramount in Achieving Personal Fulfilment, is apt because of the present situation in the country, warning that people should be mindful of their words, actions and deeds. Oguejiofor said, “going by the contemporary pronouncements, actions and deeds, 2015 looks bleak, dark, fearful and with thick web of uncertainty.”

The administrator who said Nigerians are sitting on a keg of gunpowder which she said could explode anytime, warned that positive attitude towards national issues can help arrest the situation. She, therefore, asked that all hands be on deck in order to salvage the country from imminent collapse, saying it is a sacrifice worth paying for our motherland.

Speaking in the same vein, chairman of the event, Mr Laolu Oguntuyi, a director at the Lagos State Technical and Vocational Education Board(LASTVEB) described attitude as a mental position relative to a way of thinking, a leaning towards that which one believes.

According to him, attitude shapes one’s life and it is paramount in achieving personal fulfillment, adding that positive attitude is more than thinking good thoughts as well as the ability to access behavioural state of mind regardless of one’s situation.

Oguntuyi explained that attitude is a mental position relative to a way of thinking, leaning toward that which you believe. To him, attitude shapes your life and is everything that happens to you, around you or within you. Positive attitude is more than thinking good thoughts. ‘’It is the ability to access behavioural state of mind regardless of your situation.’’

He, however, stated that good attitude will help someone achieve goals, attain success and inspire others. Besides, he said that it will help the recipient earn people’s respect, make a pleasing personality and help you become an asset to your country.

On his part, Dr Feyi Ademoye of the Department of English, Faculty of Arts, University of Lagos pointed out that anyone who wants to achieve personal fulfilment must act. She said, “What propels one to fulfillment is the vision, it helps one to complete the process in one’s mind and an effective vision will help in achieving a lot. “For you to achieve personal fulfillment, you need a fertile ground and remember that your attitude determines your altitude in life.“
