OSOGBO — Retired civil servants in Osun state yesterday in Osogbo staged a peaceful protest against the delay in the payment of arrears of their monthly pensions and gratuities running to about N1.4billion by governor Rauf Aregbesola’s administration.
They also claimed that 40 of their members have died between 2011 and now as a result of lack of funds to take care of their medical bills.
But a human rights activist, Comrade Amitolu Shittu who claimed to have been rough handled by the protesters condemned their action, alleging that the retirees prevented people on special duties from perfoming their jobs.
The protest was staged under the cover of police protection having sought permission from the State Police Command.
The protesters matched from Oke-Fia end of Osogbo through Alekunwodo and Orita Olaiya.
