Despite environmental challenges, the Customs Area Controller, Nigerian Customs Service, Seme Area Command, Lagos, Mr Willy Egbudin, weekend, said that the command recorded 1,102 seizures with a Duty Paid Value, DPV, of N548. 390 million for the year ended 2013.
Egbudin, who reviewed the activities of the command for 2013, told newsmen that the revenue collected for the period was N8.5 billion, which represents about 65 percent of its annual target.
With the command’s monthly revenue target of N1.095 billion, which translates to N13. 140 billion, annually, he said that the command did not only meet its target, but surpassed same by N161. 7 million, which represents 14.77 percent.
Noting that the command’s management had identified and blocked all perceived sources of revenue leakages, he said, “discussion is on going with our Beninoise counterpart to address the problem of appropriate transit of imported vehicles from Republic of Benin to Nigeria.
“We have been utilizing every opportunity at various fora to enlighten the citizenry on the ills of smuggling and this is an area where we also seek collaboration with the media.”
