LAGOS—Lagos State Government, yesterday, ordered the immediate stoppage of further construction of structures by an unidenfied  developer at Osborne foreshore, Ikoyi area for encroaching on limitation area as well as violation of the state’s environmental law.

Commissioner for the Environment, Mr. Tunji Bello, gave the order during an on the spot assessment to the site as part of the on-going inspection of drainage systems and canals in preparation for this year’s rainy season in the state.

According to Bello, the construction of the structure was criminal and would not be condone in any form, saying that apart from being constructed on drainage course, being a wetland, which could lead to heavy flooding during high tide of the lagoon and rainfall, it was being built under high tension cable of the defunct Power Holding Company of Nigeria, PHCN, prohibited by both federal and state governments’ environmental law.
