BENIN—THE Forum of Former Local Government Area Chairmen in Edo South senatorial district of Edo State, has urged the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in the state to commend Governor Adams Oshiomhole for not interfering in the affairs of the Local Government Election Petition Tribunal, which last week, annulled the Esan North-East Local Government Area election.
The tribunal had, following the petition by the PDP chairmanship candidate, Mr. John Yakubu, nullified the election of the All progressives Congress, APC, candidate, Mr. Sam Oboh, as winner of the October 22, 2013 chairmanship election in the council.
Reacting, chairman of the forum and former chairman of Egor Local Government Area, Mr. Crosby Eribo, said: “We are surprised that the PDP in Edo State has not deemed it fit to commend Oshiomhole for not interfering in the affairs of the tribunal unlike other states controlled by PDP.
He said: “The PDP had on several occasions called for Oshiomhole’s head, so why are they afraid to commend him over this judgment, which we all knew even shocked the PDP. Being an opposition party does not mean that people should condemn the policies of government at all times, a credible opposition should learn to commend the government when it does well.”
