BENIN — AHEAD of the 2016 governorship election in Edo State, leaders of Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Edo State chapter, met in Benin to strategise on how to wrest power from the ruling All Progressives Party, APC, in the state.
The well attended meeting in the Benin home of the chairman of the Board of Trustees, BoT, of the party, Chief Anthony Anenih, had in attendance the host, the Minister of Works, Mr. Mike Onolemenen; members of the state executive council of the party led by its chairman, Chief Dan Orbih, Senator Odion Ugbesia, Mr. Kennneth Immansuangbon, among other leaders of the party across the three senatorial districts of the state.
Speaking with journalists after a closed door meeting, state chairman, Chief Orbih, said that PDP had almost completed a process that would return it to power in 2016.
Asked if the meeting was about picking candidates for the 2015 and 2016 elections, Orbih said: “What we discussed was a roadmap to Government House. We are strengthening the party from the unit to the state level.
“I would have given you details, but these people now know that they are losing the battle and we don’t want to reveal our strategies. I can boldly say that 80 per cent of what we need to do on our side to bring back PDP into power in Edo State has been completed and the days of the deceptive APC government in Edo State are numbered.
“The state government has made our job simpler with the repressive and dehumanising policies it has inflicted on the people of Edo State and we are prepared to face them. We are conscious of the fact that the state government has plunged Edo people into huge debt they have been guarding in secrecy and workers have never had it this bad in the state.
“We have seen that the Oshiomhole administration has lost focus.”
