Asaba—ANIOMA Congress, regarded as the apex body of the Anioma nation, has concluded arrangements to screen all the aspirants of Anioma extraction jostling for the state governorship position in 2015, at the palace of the Asagba of Asaba, Obi Joseph Edozien, on February 28.

Secretary of the congress, Mr. Dan Okenyi, in a statement,  said: “A Gubernatorial Screening Committee will be inaugurated to carry out the screening exercise aimed at picking the best among equals.”

Meanwhile, a  socio-political pressure group, The Hope Project, has thrown its weight behind the former acting governor of Delta State, Prince Sam Obi, for the governorship race in 2015, extolling Obi’s track record during his short stay as the acting governor, during which he cleared the huge debt owed to contractors. He said Obi was a detribalised Deltan, a quality that had endeared him to many Deltans.

The group, led by Mr. Esimaje Awani, at a meeting of the three senatorial districts of the state in Warri, resolved to throw its weight behind Obi.

According to the group, “We are not pretending about it. Mr Obi is an astute politician who has undergone political tutelage from being a ward councilor, local government council chairman, three times member of the state House of Assembly, Speaker of the state Assembly and acting governor of the state, who is fit for the job of becoming the next governor.

“He is a true democrat and a bridge builder, who will also consolidate on the achievements of Governor Emmanuel Uduaghan.”
