Confab: PPA threatens litigation over exclusion

NATIONAL Chairman of the Progressive Peoples Alliance, PPA, one of the 25 registered political parties, Mr. Peter Ameh, has called for the inclusion of the party’s delegates in the proposed national conference or he would go to court.

Picking holes in the template that allows only five parties that have members in the National Assembly to nominate 10 delegates, excluding 20 others, especially, the PPA, which has a state lawmaker, he said that the modalities contravened the 1999 Constitution.

Ameh said: “It is good to set the record straight that our party the Progressive Peoples Alliance has met all laid down requirements for a registered political party in Nigeria both within the Constitution and the Electoral Act 2011 (as amended) Section 78 sub-section 2 which states that a party must at least have a seat in the State House of Assembly and the party met this condition.

“My party contested and won a seat in the Bayelsa State House of Assembly during the 2011 general elections. Victor Prezi is a member of the PPA and currently represents Ekenemor II State Constituency in Bayelsa State Assembly and by this PPA is a parliamentary party.”
