AWKA — Anambra State Governorship Election Tribunal sitting in Awka, yesterday, dismissed the petition filed by a governorship aspirant on the platform of All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA, Dr. Chike Obidigbo, saying the petitioner had no business in the tribunal.
In a ruling that lasted about one hour, chairman of the tribunal, Justice Ishaq Bello, said Obidigbo could not be joined in the petition in the spirit of the Electoral Act.
Justice Bello said it was the view of the tribunal that the applicant was not known to be a party in the election and could not statutorily be joined in the petition.
According to him, the law does not provide for a ceremonial respondent in an election petition as a party must be connected with the election.
Justice Bello added that in the prevailing case, the applicant had a mistaken belief he had a case.
