Anambra PDP crisis deepens, chairman accused of anti-party activity

ONITSHA The crisis rocking the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Anambra State, yesterday, deepened as some members of the executive, led by Ken Emeakayi, kicked against alleged plot to sack them from office in an on going harmonisation by stakeholders.

Addressing reporters in Awka, the state vice chairman, Sir Amechi Onowum, and treasurer, Mr. Chudi Okasia, described as unconstitutional the on-going exercise when their tenure would not expire  until October this year.

They said:  “ There is no provision of harmonisation in the PDP constitution. This is a grand design by our Abuja politicians who cause problem in the party to achieve their selfish interest.

“We want the new chairman to know the problem in Anambra PDP, that there is harmonisation going on in the state party  and the plot is to remove 28 of us, leaving Ken Emeakayi as chairman, when we were elected to serve for a four-year tenure.

”We are appealing to the new national chairman to allow us to remain in office till October this year when our tenure will expire or alternatively dissolve the entire executive and not make Emeakayi a
sacred cow.”

According to the duo, the problem of PDP in the state is not harmonisation of leadership but that of corruption by some leaders of the party in the state.

The duo accused Emeakayi of anti-party activity, having declared that both recent governorship and local government elections adjudged a charade were free and fair and had personally attended APGA swearing- in ceremony of its elected members.
