Lagos — A 40-year-old woman, Eunice Olagbende, was, yesterday, arraigned before an Ikeja Magistrate Court, over alleged theft of clothes worth N2.5 million.
The defendant, who is facing a count charge, bordering on conspiracy, obtaining and stealing, preferred against her by the police, was docked before Magistrate Abimbola Komolafe.
The police prosecutor, Inspector Iranus Nnamonu, told the court that the defendant and others at large, committed the offence between March 2011 and September 2012, at about 10am at Mafoluku, Oshodi.
He said the defendant stole the said clothes, under false pretence, to sell them and remit the money to one Ijeoma Kogwu, which she knew was false.
According to the prosecutor, the offence committed is contrary to section 312 and punishable under section 285 (1) of the criminal law of Lagos state of Nigeria 2011.
If found guilty, the defendant is liable to three years imprisonment.
Magistrate Komolafe granted the defendant bail in the sum of N500,000, with twosureties in like sum.
She adjourned the matter to February 18, 2014, for mention.
