KANO — Twenty-six members of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in the Kano State House of Assembly, yesterday, defected to the All Progressives Congress, APC.
Following the development, the APC now has 32 members in the House while the PDP, which earlier controlled the majority, has eight in the 40-member Assembly.
However, the Speaker of the Assembly, Alhaji Gambo Sallau, and three other members were absent while the development was announced.
Speaking on behalf of the defecting PDP members, Rabiu Saleh Gwarzo, representing Gwarzo Constituency, said the “APC is a party that has a clear-cut agenda of liberating Nigerians.”
Gwarzo stated that all the defecting members had wide consultations with their respective constituencies before making up their mind to leave.
According to Gwarzo, their defection was influenced by the outstanding performance of Governor Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, who they said had transformed every sector in the state.
The defected PDP members include the Deputy Speaker, Alhaji Isyaku Ali Danja; former Speaker, Yusuf Abdullahi Falgore, who represents Rogo Constituency, and the Majority Leader, Hamisu Ibrahim- Makoda Constituency,.
They also included the Deputy Majority Leader, Alhaji Yusuf Babangida, Suleman-Gwale Constituency and the Chief Whip, Alhaji Abdullahi Iliyasu Yunusa, among others.
