Chairman of the Organising Committee for the 15th Nigeria Oil and Gas Industry Games, Louis Ogbeifun has stressed that the essence of the biennial games that begin this Sunday in Lagos is for friendship and bonding.
Speaking at a pre-event press briefing in Lagos Thursday, Ogbeifun said, “it has afforded sports men and women in oil and gas industry the opportunity to come together under a convivial atmosphere to interact with one another and promote friendship through sporting competition.”
Continuing, the chairman said, “the essence of the games is not just about winning but enhancing our physical well-being and mental alertness in adherence to the industry’s health, safety, environment and quality (HSEQ).” Twelve companies are participating in this year’s edition which is being supported by telecommunication giants, Globacom. Events are billed to hold at the Chevron Recreation Centre Gbagada, Ikoyi Club 1938 and the Teslim Balogun Stadium, Surulere Lagos.
Events to be competed for include Tennis, Squash, Swimming, Athletics, Golf and 8 ball pool.
Other sports include Chess, Scrabble and football. The opening ceremony holds at the Chevron Centre in Gbagada on Sunday
The chairman explained that adequate measures have been taken to ensure there were no cheats at the games. “Participation is only open to bonifide members of staff of the participating companies,” he said, adding that it would be extremely difficult for any mercenary to beat the measure put in place.
