2 teenagers drown in Aladja river

WARRI — TRAGEDY struck n Ekregwhare Quarters of Aladja community in Udu Council Area of Delta State, weekend, as two teenagers were drowned in neighbouring Oleri River while swimming, despite warning by soldiers on security duty.

Vanguard gathered that the victims, identified as Prince Brown, a JSS1 student of Aladja Grammar School and Ejiro John, Primary six pupil of Aladja Primary School, both aged 14 years, were accompanied by their friends, Oghenevwegba (17) and Tuwenre (16).

The incident threw the community into mourning, especially the Brown and John families.

Elder sister to one of the victims said the children at the point of swimming were asked by one of the soldiers at the DSC Army check point to go home but they refused.

Another source added that at the Oleri Waterside, some other persons also cautioned them but they told them that they were going to their grandmother’s place.

Our source said “on getting to Oleri, they diverted to the creek. Ejiro pulled his clothes and jumped into the water and Prince followed. When the other two noticed that the duo could not come out of the water, they ran and alerted some people.

The two victims were already dead by the time their parents and rescue team got there.
