ABUJA — A Ministerial nominee and former Governor of Adamawa State, Mr. Boni Haruna is now set to scale through the Senate screening as he has been acquitted and discharged of offences of conspiracy and forgery of bank accounts’ documents by the Federal High Court sitting in Yola.
The former governor was alleged to have been involved in alteration of Guarantee Trust Bank’s documents.
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, had charged Mr. Haruna to court for operating a Guarantee Bank account by proxy when he was the governor of Adamawa State.
The EFCC specifically accused him of operating an account where the local government chairmen in the state and himself were the signatories.
The balance in the account amounting to N46.2million comprised N2.2 million allegedly donated by the 21 local government chairmen for the registration of voters by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC.
However, Haruna was acquitted on Thursday, January 16, 2014, by the court presided over by Justice Balkisu Bello Aliyu.
