BAUCHI — AT least seven persons have been confirmed dead while five others sustained injuries when a commercial bus veered off the road and hit an articulated truck on Alkaleri-Gombe road, about 50km from Bara village in Kirfi Local Government Area of Bauchi State.
The accident which took place at about 12.30 pm occured when an 18-seater commercial Mitsubish bus with number plate AJ 779 TRN lost control at a sharp bend and rammed into an articulated truck with number plate BB 79 MUS, parked by the roadside.
Confirming the incident, Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Commission, FRSC, Mr Sunday Henry Olatunji, said among the 12 persons involved in the crash, seven were confirmed dead while five sustained injuries.
According to him, “among the dead persons were three adult males, two male children and two female children. The remaining five that were injured are men.”
Olatunji who said his officers along with state rescue officials rushed to the scene shortly after it happened, attributed the crash to the fault of driver of the Mitsubish bus who was over-speeding.
He said all the victims of the crash, including the corpses of the seven persons were conveyed to the Federal Medical Centre, Gombe State.
He a appealed to motorists to be careful and observe traffic rules and regulations, especially during the Christmas celebrations.
