UMUAHIA—Governor Theodore Orji of Abia State in Umuahia, yesterday, said the maintenance of peace and security in Abia was not only very expensive but had become a pivotal policy on which development of the state was hinged.
In a statement by his Special Adviser on Public Communication, Mr. Ben Onyechere, the governor said: “The substance of peace and its consequences have been an apple in the eyes of my administration because it is through our determination to uphold tranquility that our efforts in re-inventing Abia can be measured.
“Irrespective of the huge cost that accrue from this policy, I will remain resolute more than ever before in the prosecution of this onerous agenda. It is as a result of this existing peace that we have extended responsibility of government in embarking on an irreversible programme of youth empowerment and free education for all in the state.
“We consider the youth not only as the engine room of development but the vehicle through which government pursuit of a friendly and crime free society can be achieved.”
According to Governor Orji, government was determined not to yield to any attempt from any quarter at frustrating the maintenance of peace and tranquility which the state had earned at a very high cost.
