Police arrest injured robbery suspect in hospital


ENUGU —  Enugu State Police Command has arrested an armed robbery suspect at Bishop Shanahan Hospital, Nsukka, where he had gone to treat bullet wounds he allegedly sustained in a gun battle between his gang and security agents.

The suspect, identified as Chigozie Owoh from Ozalla in Nkanu West Local Government Area of the state, police said, was picked up from the hospital by operatives from Nsukka Division, following a tip-off.

The State Police Public Relations Officer, Mr. Ebere Amaraizu, said: “The suspect had gone to BishopShanahanHospital, Nsukka, October 2, to treat his bullet wounds, when information got to the operatives of the Nsukka Division of the police, Enugu State Command.

“He was interrogated on the spot, where he told the operatives that he was robbed and shot. Not satisfied, the operatives searched a blue Fiat bus with number plate KRD 324 XD, which the suspect allegedly drove to the hospital, and two locally made pistols and a cartridge was recovered from the bus.”

He said victims and the owner of the bus had identified the suspect, who is now helping in police investigation.
