Kewalram Nigeria Limited has launched the FotonDaimler range of heavy trucks and buses into the Nigerian market. The renowned automobile marketing company, recently presented the range to motoring journalists in Lagos.
Speaking at the presentation, at their Oshodi Apapa expressway office, the executive director, Mr. Raju Sawlani who briefed the press with the General Manager, Mr. Anil Saghal and other management staff of the company explained that the decision to introduce the Foton-Daimler brand of trucks and commercial vehicle into the Nigerian market was informed by the quality of the brand which ranks among the best around the world.
He described the brand as one of the fastest growing in the country with the Germany technology behind it. “It is a Chinese brand manufactured with European technology,” he said.
Though a Chinese brand, the executive director disclosed that the brand is a joint venture between Daimler Ag of Germany and Foton Motor Company of China which invested heavily in the company, thereby raising the quality of the trucks to European standard.

Trained technicians

With over 500 units of the FotonDaimler Auman heaux trucks delivered to customers in less than two years, Kewalram said it is targeting 20 percent of the Nigerian truck market in the new future. “We have layed the foundation and with our trained technician and support from our partners we shall achieve this, says the executive director.
Apart from the Foton Daimler heavy duty trucks, Kewalram also introduced the Foton K-1 series commercial vehicles which he described as very efficient and economical range of buses. They are available in 16-seater with high roof, midroof or standard roof like the Toyota Hiace buses.
On the success of the brand in less than two years, the executive director who has many years experience in automotive business in Nigeria said that their after sales support put them ahead of competition.  “Supplying the vehicles is not the issue but the right service backup which we offer to our customers is what stands us out,” he said.

Apart from strong after sales support the executive director said that the technology of their trucks is comparable to European brands because of the Daimler technology. In addition to these, he also noted that the brand is cheap and easy to maintain, thereby guaranteeing value for money.
To ensure high quality, Mr Raju disclosed that they are bringing in only FotonDaimler heavy trucks with brand name ‘Auman’ which is tropicalised for Nigeria road conditions.
Some of the Foton-Daimler range include Auman 14 ton rigid truck, single axle trailer head,  double axle trailer head for 50 tons and 45 tons as well as 20 and 30 tons tippers.
