Yenagoa — A former militant leader in Bayelsa State, Pius Wareyai, weekend, rai-sed alarm over attempts on his life by armed men over his alleged refusal to allow illegal bunkering activities on the Gbarain River and Egbema-Angalabiri waterways in Ekeremor Local Government Area of the state.
Wareyai, in a petition to the state Commissioner of Police, Mr. Hillary Okpara in Yenagoa, said that contrary to media report of a gun battle between his followers over alleged diversion of welfare packages from the Amnesty Implementation Office, the attack on his home was launched by suspected oil thieves.
In the petition by his lawyers, the former militant leader said that the September 27 attack launched on his home was carried out by desperate oil thieves to kill him and his family over his security activity on the Gbarain River and Ekeremor waterways.
According to him, the said waterways play host to the multi-million dollar oil exploration activities at Opukushi flow station, the Clough Creek Agip Flow station, the Kambo Oil Field and the Tunu Flow Station.
