Neighbourhood criminals: Imo Police slam LG chiefs, monarchs

OWERRI—Imo State Police Command has lashed out at traditional rulers, sole administrators of local councils areas and religious leaders for failing to report the activities of neighbourhood criminals to the police.

The Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, Mrs. Joy Elemoko, a deputy superintendent of police, DSP, made the command’s position known during a press briefing in Owerri.

“A a well known criminal, Chizuru, alias Point One, involved in the kidnap of Ugoeze Joy Nwaokeke, is living and moving freely in the locality, even when he had been declared wanted by the police,” the PPRO said.

Mrs. Elemoko recalled with grief that despite adequate information on Emeka Osueke, alias Ogbanje, the suspect still sneaked into Umunoha, Mbaitoli local government area of the state and nobody cared to alert the police.

“Emeka Osueke, who was involved in the kidnap and gruesome murder of the Managing Director of Naija Plaza Hotel, Oguta, sneaked into Umunoha, where he planned to launch further attacks on innocent citizens but for the timely intervention of the police. His latest victim would have been one Mrs. Uche Ejiogu.”

On the upsurge of criminal activities in parts of the state,

Elemoko said: “Ohaji area of the state is now on a circle of red alert, having been identified as a den of criminal elements responsible for the spate of armed robbery attacks on innocent citizens.

“This prompted the Commissioner of Police to invite all royal fathers and other highly placed individuals for a strategic meeting. Earlier in an operation tagged Puff Adder, six notorious hoodlums were arrested. This operation is on-going.”
