BENIN CITY—FORMER National Secretary of Ijaw Youth Council, IYC, and Niger Delta activist, Mr Paul Bebenimibo, Monday, described the crisis rocking IYC as an embarrassment to the Ijaw nation and called for the setting up of a Caretaker Committee to run the affairs of the council until an election was conducted.
He said that the call for a caretaker committee was based on the fact that the tenure of Miabiye Koromieya’s-led executive expired on June 2013, therefore, it would be unconstitutional and illegal for the executive to continue to run the affairs of the council.
Bebenimibo stressed the need to provide a conducive atmosphere for a free and fair election to be conducted, warning that stakeholders in the Ijaw nation would not allow any group and person, to destabilise IYC.
“The three years reign of the out-gone executive was bedeviled with one crisis or the other, hence has no moral stand to continue to stay in power.”
