Court arraigns Ebonyi PDP councillorship candidate for alleged forgery

ABAKALIKI—The police has arraigned a councillorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, for the September 28 local government election in Ebonyi State, Mr Odeh Mmaduabuchi, before an Abakaliki magistrate court for certificate forgery and impersonation.

It will be recalled that the police who arrested the accused last week, had gone to the West Africa Examination Council, WAEC, Regional office, Enugu State, where the suspect allegedly obtained copies of WAEC original statement of result, and confirmed the accusation of forgery against Mr Odah.

He was arrested by the Police in the state, following two separate petitions by another aspirant, Mr. Kingsley Onu, to Ebonyi State Commissioner of Police, CP Maigari Dikko and EBSIEC respectively, accusing Odah of conspiracy, certificate forgery and impersonation.

However, the accused is facing a two-count charge for allegedly forging WAEC May/June 2008 certificate with exam number 412010154 belonging to his sister, Ogochukwu Odeh.

It was also learnt that the accused allegedly presented the forged certificate to his party as well as Ebonyi State Independent National Electoral Commission, EBSIEC, during their last screening exercises.

When the matter came up, the accused pleaded not guilty to the charges, while his counsel made oral application for his bail.

The trial magistrate, Ruth Okey granted bail to the accused with the sum of N50, 000 and a surety. She adjourned the matter to October 23rd for hearing.
