PORT HARCOURT—AGED Mrs. Beatrice Oduda has asked the Federal Housing Authority, FHA, to refund the N74,000 she committed to the National Housing Programme, NHP, 20 years ago.
Oduda told Vanguard in Port Harcourt, Rivers State that at 69 and grappling with ill-health, she has lost hope of owning a house through the NHP and all she wanted was a refund of her hanging payment invested in the programme.
Explaining her case with receipts detailing her payments, Oduda said that she had suffered untold hardship trying to retrieve her commitment to the housing programme.
She said: “In 1994, I saw a newspaper advertisement by the FHA, asking people to apply. I needed a house, so I applied. I paid N74, 000 and got a receipt with registration number 054002. Since then, I have been waiting to see the house they promised.
“In November 2012, I travelled to Abuja to find out what was going on. A lady named Hauwa assisted me to open a file, but all I want now is my money back. I can’t wait till eternity for the NHP assisted home. Let me have my money now that I am still alive.”
