LAGOS— Lagos State, practical-ly, stood still yesterday, as eminent Nigerians, foreign diplomats, politicians from various political parties, market women and men, well wishers, among others, thronged the Tafawa Balewa Square, TBS, venue of the 8th Day Fidau prayers for the repose of late Pa Ibrahim Ademola Fashola, father of Governor Babatunde Fashola of Lags State.
Pa Fashola died on August 5, 2013, aged 80, after a brief illness at his Surulere residence, while his son, the Lagos State governor, was far away in Saudi Arabia performing the Lesser Hajj, Umrah.
Meantime, various Muslim clerics who offered prayers and gave sermons at the well attended event, preached on the need for men to make humility their watch word even as they urged Nigerian leaders and all those in positions of authority as well as everyone still alive to emulate the life of service to humanity as exemplified by the late octogenarian.
The eminent Nigerians, led by Speaker House of Representatives, Aminu Tambuwal, include: Governor of Ogun State, Ibikunle Amosun, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola, Governor of Osun State, Abiola Ajimobi, Governor of Oyo State, Governor of Kogi State Captain Idris Wada, Governor of Jigawa, Mallam Sule Lamido, Niger State Governor, Babangida Aliyu, Governor of Kano State, Dr Rabiu Kwakwanso, Edo State Governor, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole, Governor of Adamawa, Vice Admiral Murtala Nyako and Speaker, Lagos State House of Assembly, Adeyemi Ikuforiji.
Also, former Head of state, General Muhammed Buhari, (rtd), the Ex-Vice President, Alhaji Abubakar Atiku, former Secretary to the Federal Government, Alhaji Yahyale Ahmed, former speaker of the House of Representatives, Alhaji Aminu Masari, and ex-governor of Ekiti State, Mr. Adeniyi Adebayo, among numerous others.
