Abuja — A FCT Senior Magistrates’ court in Karu, Abuja,Thursday, sentenced a mechanic, Ikechukwu Colma, to six months in prison for beating up Monday Mohammed of Kugbo Village, Abuja.
Senior Magistrate Omolola Akindele passed the judgment after the convict pleaded guilty to a two-count charge of criminal force and intimidation.
Akindele did not give the convict an option to pay a fine.
Earlier, the prosecutor, Cpl. Umar Mohammed, told the court that Mohammed, the complainant, reported the case at Karu Divisional Police Station on August 8.
He said the convict beat up the complainant at his car wash stand following an argument over N15,000 which he said the complainant owed him.
The prosecutor said the complainant was rushed to the hospital after the incident, were he was treated for injuries sustained during the beating.
He said that the offence was contrary to Sections 264 and 397(b) of the Penal code.
When asked by the magistrate if he used force on the complainant as charged by the police, he admitted he did.
In her ruling, Akindele sentenced the convict to three months in prison for the offence of criminal force and three months for intimidation.
