National Movement of Nigeria, yesterday, called on President Goodluck Jonathan and the Minister of Health, to call the Chairman of Irrua Specialist Hospital Board of Management, Chief Boyelayefa Dedekem, to order and ask him to allow the rule of law and due process take place in the choice of a new Chief Medical Director for the hospital.
The movement also condemned the manner in which the out-going Chief Medical Director, Prof. Akpede, was sent on compulsory leave before the minister ordered due process to be followed.
Speaking in Lagos, National Publicity Secretary of the movement, Mr. Okharedia Ihimekpen, said that the actions of the board of the hospital were not only constituting an embarrassment to government but creating undue tension in the locality, which the teaching hospital is situated.
He said the actions were capable of undermining the effort of the president’s transformation agenda in the health sector.
He noted: “We have information that the board chairman has totally usurped the responsibilities and functions of the management of the teaching hospital. The Minister of Health must live up to expectation to allow due process in the hospital before anarchy takes place.”
