Court remands man over fake currency

GUSAU— A Zamfara Magistrates’ court, Tuesday, ordered 38-year-old Nasiru Lawal of Birnin Ruwa area of Gusau  remanded in prison for alleged possession of fake currency.

The prosecutor, Sgt. Daniel Longwal, told the court that on July 21, Saratu Nura and Rukkaya Salisu, both of Ungwar Gwaza area, Gusau, reported the case at Tudun Wada police station, Gusau.

Longwal said on July 7, the accused bought 22 bottles of groundnut oil, worth N4,650 and deceitfully gave the complainants a N1,000 note suspected to be fake.

The prosecutor added that when the police searched the accused, nine other N1,000 notes suspected to be fake were found on him.

He said the offence contravened section 439 of the Penal Code, but the accused pleaded not guilty to the charge.

The magistrate, Malam Musa Usman, ordered that the accused be remanded in prison and adjourned the case to September 2.
