With a 35-man squad set to hit South Africa on Wednesday, August 14 for an international football friendly against a crack All Stars Club of Johannesburg, officials and members of Goldashe United FC of Port Harcourt have expressed displeasure with their counterparts in Lagos and Abuja for being excluded in the nation-wide all stars league.
The recreational outfit who are currently champions of the all stars in Rivers State, said their unhappiness stems from the fact that their counterparts from other states of the federation were regularly invited by Lagos and Abuja for zonal championships and the annual all stars league.
Speaking with journalists in Port Harcourt last weekend, the President of Goldashe United FC, Warisenibo Fubara Kingsley Hart described the situation as unfortunate, wondering what may have informed the decision to sideline his organization from a league which, according to him, had no pecuniary interests but solely intended to encourage social interaction among retired footballers, keep fit and stay healthy.
Our answer, of course was that we were not invited. I do not know what could have been lacking in a club like Goldashe. We have ex-professionals like Cyril Levi who was captain of Iwuanyanwu Nationale FC, ex Nigerian international, Albert Chinwo, Benjamin Duru, Joseph Duntoye and many others” he said.
