Abe condemns alleged arrest of Amaechi’s loyalists

ABUJA— SENATOR Magnus Abe, Peoples Democratic Party, PDP Rivers South-East, has condemned alleged arbitrary arrest and detention of some members of the PDP loyal to Governor Chibuike Amaechi of Rivers State.

He called on the Inspector General of Police, Mr.  Mohammed Abubakar, to carry out a proper investigation into the manner the Amaechi supporters were arrested.

Senator Abe, who described the manner Charles Ahamefule and Leo Anyanwu were literarily kidnapped from Rivers State to Abuja and remanded in Kuje Prison, Abuja,  as unacceptable, said he was worried about the country’s constitution, adding that the constitution must be protected by President Goodluck Jonathan and other Nigerians.

It will be recalled that Charles Ahamefule, Chairman, PDP in Omuma Local Government Area and Leo Anyanwu, Assistant Secretary of Chief Godspower Ake-led PDP, the executive which is loyal to Governor Amaechi and sacked by an Abuja High Court and replaced by Chief Felix Obuah, were arrested in Rivers State and taken to Abuja ,where they are being detained in Kuje Prison, on the alleged instigation of the Obuah’s faction, which is loyal to Minister of State, Education, Mr. Nyesom Wike.

Speaking to journalists after paying a visit to the detained PDP members at  Kuje Prison, weekend, Abe, who is the Chairman, Senate Committee on Petroleum, Downstream, described them as political prisoners.
