Bauchi—A Police Inspector and one other person were killed in a foiled bank robbery in Alkaleri Local Government Area of Bauchi State.

One of the bandits was arrested and was said to be helping the security operatives with their investigation.

An eye witness who spoke on condition of anonymity told Vanguard, yesterday, that 15 gunmen stormed the bank in at night and opened fire on security operatives, leading to exchange of gun fire between the armed robbers and the security men.

It was gathered that the Inspector was killed during the gun duel and one of the robbers was captured.

According to the witness, “the armed men were able to enter inside the bank but before they could break the vault, the security men reinforced and repelled them.”

A security operative told Vanguard that one of the robbers that was caught, took the security men to the robbers’hide out where security operatives recovered five Ak 47 riffles, eight magazines, two Improvised Explosive Devices, IEDs, a forged Police Identity card and two GSM handsets.

“The captured suspect is helping security personnel in investigation.”

When contacted, the Police Public Relations Officer, Hassan Mohammed Auyo,  said the police was still investigating the robbery incident and would brief the press later.
