Police foil robbery attempt, arrest 2 suspects

WARRI — POLICE in Delta State, Thursday, frustrated an attempt by a three-man armed robbery gang to hold up passengers at Aragba, along Abraka Road, Ethiope East Local Government Area of the state.

State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Ikechukwu Aduba, who confirmed the incident, said the bandits started operation, yesterday morning, at Isiokolo while the police, acting on a tip-off, laid siege for them.

He said: “Two of the robbers are under arrest, while the third member fled and police are on his trail. One AK 47 and one locally-made double-barrel gun were recovered.”

According to him, “the robbers, operating in a Toyota Highlander,  with number plate, AS 234 ASB,  attempted to attack a yet-to-be identified commercial vehicle, but there was alert from the locals.”

He said police and anti-cult vigilance groups in the area gave the bandits a hot pursuit before they could rob the passengers and recovered the vehicle.

Also, police in Delta State have seized three suspects, who supposedly abducted a three-year-old boy, Destiny Osanebi, from his parents’ home at Ashaka, Ndokwa East Local Government Area of Delta State, four days ago.

The suspects, Oyibosochukwu, Goddy and Uzor, all vigilance group members, were nabbed with two guns and they led the police to where the victim was kept.

Destiny, whose father, Mr. Lucky Osanebi, is the elder brother of the member, representing Ndokwa East Constituency in the Delta State House of Assembly, Hon. Friday Osanebi was released, unhurt.

Hon Osanebi, who confirmed the release of Destiny to Vanguard, yesterday, commended Delta State Commissioner of Police for his swift response.

“No ransom was paid and no ransom was collected,” Osanebi said, adding: “The police carried out a commendable operation and I commend the Commissioner of Police.”
