Lagos — A staff of May and Baker Plc, Okechukwu Ogbonnaya, and others now at large, were yesterday brought before an Ikeja Magistrate Court for allegedly converting the company’s N4.95 million to his personal use.
The suspect, docked before Magistrate B. O. Osunsanmi, are facing a two- count charge of conspiracy and stealing preferred against them by the police.
Police Prosecutor, Inspector Benson Emuerhi, told the court that the defendant, employed as a sales representative of May and Baker Nigeria Plc, did fraudulently convert his employer’s N4,995, 000.00 fofr his own use.
He told the court that, the defendant committed the offence between January and June 2011 at no 3/5 Sapara Street, Ikeja, in the Ikeja Magisterial District.
Benson said the offences were punishable under section 409 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos No11, Vol. 44 Laws of Lagos State of Nigeria 2011, and section 278 (b) (2A) and punishable under section 285 (7) (9B) (C) of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State of Nigeria, 2011.
The accused pleaded not guilty to the charges and Magistrate Akinde granted him bail of N1,000, 000.00 with two sureties, one being a civil servant.
The case was adjourned to July 24, 2013.
