The Legal Practitioners’ Privileges Committee, LPPC, Friday, approved the appointment of 17 new Senior Advocates of Nigeria, SANs, even as it dismissed applications that were filed before it by 27 senior lawyers who sought to be elevated to the rank.

Disclosing the names of the new SANs during a press briefing in Abuja yesterday, the Chief Registrar of the Supreme Court and Secretary of the LPPC, Mr Sunday Olorundahunsi, said the committee selected them at the end of a rigorous two days interview sessions it conducted on July 16 and 17.

He maintained that aside a holistic inquest into their professional conduct, the LPPC, ensured that none of them had engaged in any form of judicial corruption in the past.

Those he said were okayed for conferment of the revered rank for year 2013, were Adele Eberechi, Olumide Olusoga Sofowora, Olufunke Aboyade (Ms), Uko Essien Udom, Anthony Ikechukwu Ani, Gowin Oduma Obla, Suraj Sa’eda, Anthony Chukwuemeka Anaenugwu, Joe Ad’ojo Abrahams.

Others are Akinlolu Timothy Kehinde, Prof. Lawrence Asekome Atsegbua, Biriyai Dambo, Chukwuma-Machukwu Ume, Olaleka Fatai Yusuf, Moyosore Jubril Onigbanjo, Aliyu Maitasamu Abdullahi and Victoria Olufunmilayo Awomolo.

He said the date for their swearing-in would be announced later.
