An explosion, yesterday, rocked Ikeja area of Lagos State, resulting in a fire which gutted the power generating room of Ikeja plaza.
The incident as gathered, sent workers and customers scampering for safety, while motorists plying the route hurriedly made U-turns, mistaking the deafening sound for a blast.
Confirming the incident, spokesman for the National Emergency Management Agency, NEMA, South West, Mr. Ibrahim Farinloye said no life was lost, following prompt response by fire service men.
According to him: “The power generating room of the Ikeja Plaza exploded at about 10a.m. but the fire service came immediately and were able to put it off.
“The fire, however, did not affect the offices upstairs except the ground floor. This is because the building was constructed in such a way that the ground floor serves as car parking lots and the power generating room.
“Immediately the fire started, our men were deployed to the scene and were able to evacuate the workers and customers in the building without loss of life while the fire service battled the flames downstairs.“
