The crisis rocking the Oshodi-Tapa chieftaincy family of Lagos has taken a turn for the worse, as a faction of the family has denied the election of a new head (Olori Ebi) for the family.
A faction of the family had elected Alhaji Sukurat Oshodi as the new Olori Ebi at a special meeting of the family on June 30, in Iga, Oshodi.
However, spokesperson of the Oshodi Descendants Family Forum, Imam Uthman Oshodi in a statement, yesterday, said the election was a fluke as there was no vacancy in the family headship.
He added that the Olori Ebi of Oshodi-Tapa family remains Pa Fatai Oshodi.
The statement said: “The present holder is still alive. The only vacancy existing within the family is that of the Balogun Oshodi-Tapa stool for which the appropriate branch had refused to produce a candidate.
“Hence the next branch in line had been asked to produce a candidate within the next 30 days in compliance with the family declaration agreement.”
It will be recalled that Alhaji Fatai Oshodi, as the family head, and a member of the family, Dr. Mustapha Oshodi, had filed contempt proceedings against some members of the family over alleged disregard to the consent judgment delivered by Justice T. Ojikutu Oshode (rtd.) two years ago.
In the judgment, the court ordered the defendants, which include Chief Babatunde Oshodi, Alhaji Rasaq Oshodi, Alhaji Sura Oshodi and Victor Otuyemi, a lawyer, to vacate Iga Oshodi and stop parading themselves as custodians of the Oshodi Tapa-Chieftaincy family and as executive members of the family.
