Court dethrones Ekiti monarch

ADO EKITI — The Ekiti State High Court, sitting in Ikole. Ekiti has nullified the appointment of Olumojo of Imojo Ekiti, Oba Samuel Olatunji, stating that the appointment of the monarch was fraught with irregularities.

Oba Olatunji who is from Fabunmi Ruling House was installed on January 22, 2009, but his installation was challenged by Prince Oluwadare Ayeni from Atoriseya Sokunrin Ruling House.

Counsel to  Ayeni, Dayo Adewumi from Dele Omotoso’s chambers had approached the court in 2010, praying for the nullification of the said appointment, stressing that the exercise was not in accordance with the provisions of the Chiefs Law 1984 as amended.

While C.O. Omokhafe who represented the chairman of the king-makers and Oba Samuel Olatunji, the Olumojo of Imojo had submitted that Prince Ayeni had waived his right having opted for Ifa divination, instead of the voting system by the king-makers. He, therefore urged the court to dismiss Prince Ayeni’s suit.
